Oghenetejiri Esewhaye is a Nigerian contemporary visual artist based in Lagos, whose vibrant mixed-media works celebrate African culture, faith, resilience, and the transformative power of joy. Inspired by his environment, cultural heritage, and everyday human experiences, he creates expressive narratives that evoke hope, foster connection, and encourage viewers to embrace
life with optimism.
Working primarily with acrylic paint and sometimes Ankara fabric, Oghenetejiri combines bold colour palettes, rich textures, African prints, and floral motifs to produce striking compositions that honour tradition while exploring contemporary themes of identity, love, peace, unity, and emotional well-being.
His layered approach reflects the complexity of human experiences and the enduring strength found in community, faith, and cultural pride. For Oghenetejiri, art is both a deeply personal practice and a powerful means of storytelling. Each work serves as an invitation to reflect, heal, and celebrate the resilience of the human spirit.
Through his distinctive visual language, he seeks to inspire positivity and create moments of emotional connection that transcend cultural boundaries. His work has been exhibited in both local and international exhibitions, including:
The Affordable Art Auction at Arthouse Contemporary, Lagos (2020); Black Joy (2022), Treasures Within (2022), Whispers of Contentment (2023), and Echoes of Heritage: Contemporary African Narratives (2025) with Tribes Art Africa Gallery on Artsy;
