Ifeanyi Emmanuel Otti, born in Enugu State, is an award-winning Nigerian visual artist whose primitive memories of artistic expression incepted from childhood, with playful practices of etching visible faces on sands. This recreational exercise that served as an outlet for boredom and discomfort would metamorphose into a full-fledged profession and certified by the prestigious Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu. He uses his art as a means through which he explores complexities of human emotions and
experiences. The innate desire to tell stories and preserve cultural legacies has continued to shape his journey while establishing his voice as a versatile contemporary artist, experimenting with various innovative techniques.
Ifeanyi’s artistic practice is the concept of storytelling and cultural preservation, with the aim to bridge the gap between historical narratives and contemporary discourse. He explores the themes of memory, nostalgia and time. Primarily, deploying delicate materials like salt symbolizes purity, protection, and vigor.
Through various mediums, Ifeanyi creates installations, portraits, and sculptures that reflect the fragility of human existence and celebrate the rich traditions of African heritage. embodying mediums such as salt, spices, fabrics, oil color, metal and acrylic on canvas. He incorporates recycled materials into work composition as an eco-friendly contributor to environmental matters. Ultimately, Ifeanyi’s goal is to create immersive atmosphere that invites viewers to engage with art on multiple sensory levels, sparking thoughts, emotions, and reflections.
